A Love Story About the Finer Things

“So pull me close and never leave. Hold my hand as I fall asleep, and watch over me while I dream. Of all the gifts you could bring, these are the finer things.”

From our wedding at the St. Regis Hotel in Park City, Utah on June 16, 2019

The line above is from my wedding vows which, looking back, was more like an affirmation than a vow. It then became the foundation for a song I wrote called The Finer Things. The vow and song are about the finest gifts that we can bring: dedication, support, friendship, loyalty, faith, hope, authenticity, and love, as opposed to material things. Meet my husband, Spencer. He’s a gift to me - my finer thing.

When I met Spencer, it appeared that we came from two different walks of life. He was a blue collared, turned white collared, Kentucky boy and pop culture artist. I was a former blue-suited Washington lawyer turned Nashville musician. We met online, and with an open heart and open mind, our lives became inextricably tied. This is just a sneak peek on more to come because a lot has happened over the last ten years (I met Spencer one year after I moved to Nashville).

The finer things: these are the things that matter when we die, so they should matter most while we’re alive. So, it’s fitting that Here In The Highlands is about bringing the finer things into your life. And yes, I’ll be sharing some dating advice!

My dearest friends in all the world.
